Fintech Predictions for 2022

Fintech Predictions for 2022

As we welcome 2022 with open arms, I would like to make a few predictions for the landscape of payments:

Embedded finance and Banking as a Service(BaaS) will grow like a weed. We will see a tectonic shift in banking and finance infrastructure.

MasterCard Send and Visa Direct will see massive adoption and breakdown barriers for international payments.

An enormous increase in Software as a Service companies will recognize gross payments revenue regardless of being a registered Payment facilitator.

Cash Discount and Surcharging will get closer to mainstream adoption as legal hurdles are cleared, and enterprise businesses test consumer push back.

Card present transactions will continue to shrink, replaced by wallets and card-on-file.

Real-Time-Payments(RTP) will eclipse ACH.

Agree? Disagree? What are your thoughts on what this year will look like in the world of Fintech?

UPDATED 2/21

I missed a big one.

At the end of last year, I made several predictions about the payments landscape for 2022.

Embedded Finance should have been on this list.

Accenture estimates that $92 billion in revenue could shift to #embeddedfinance finance by 2025.

Below is a link to the full report, I highly recommend reading it, as it certainly adds context to #fintech #acquisitions like Fiserv buying Finxact.
